I live in the area I am seeking to represent

Gisborne has always been home. I've lived here all my life and I am raising my family here with my husband Jason.

Working in the education, retail and community development sectors has given me a good understanding of the key local issues facing people from all walks of life in our community.

Like my mentor Nona, I'm absolutely committed to Gisborne. I will bring fresh thinking on the big issues like decent jobs, youth opportunities and looking after our beautiful beaches and rivers.

Gisborne has so much potential. I will work to ensure rates are affordable, economic opportunities are realised and high standards are set for protecting our environment.

I am passionate about the needs of our whole community and believe good representation, inclusive leadership and a common vision are vital for ensuring the community's best interests are at the heart of local government.

Personal Profile

“Gisborne is a great place to grow up in and create a lifestyle around family and friends”.

I was born in Gisborne in 1970 and have lived here all my life. I am married to Jason Akuhata-Brown and have three children. I have enjoyed working in our community in a variety of roles including the social services sector, education sector and health sector. To ensure our diverse community is represented at Council I feel it is vital that it has a range of ages, ethnicities and backgrounds.

I want to bring fresh new innovative thinking around employment and a new vision for the future of our region. We have a lot to offer the global market and more potential that needs to be realized. I want to ensure our rates are kept affordable, economic opportunities made available and ongoing care for our environment is maintained.

I am passionate about the needs of our whole community and believe that good representation, strong leadership with strategic vision are keys to ensuring the communities best interests are at the heart of the Local Council.
